Halloween is traditionally a time of scary high blood sugar, but these adorable Healthy Halloween Ghost Snacks are a way to get a treat without candy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good treat be it Reese’s peanut butter cups or cupcakes, but in general, we are trying to eat improve our diet. If the Halloween sugar high were just the one day I could deal, but there seems to be activities, parties and class snacks all month long. If at least half of those were healthier options, I would be one happy momma.
These little ghosts were inspired by our snack today. My preschooler and toddler were asking for a snack, and when I was pulling the yogurt out of the fridge and getting out a paper towel, it occurred to me that they would make cute little ghosts. They are incredibly simple. We turned our yogurt cups upside down. Then we covered them in the paper towels which double as a convenient way to clean up after eating your snack. Next we slipped a rubber band over the paper towel to hold it in place. Finally, we drew faces on our ghosts with a black marker, and they were ready to go.
It was that simple. No mess, no fuss, just a couple of basic supplies. The yogurt was great, but you could also use applesauce or fruit cups. These would make the perfect Halloween treat for students in an elementary classroom or a preschool. Whether you’re the teacher, snack mom, or party mom, these would be a spooky cute healthy snack. You could even have the children make their own as a party craft. You could hand them out as a healthy trick-or-treat alternative too, but you would probably want to stick with the applesauce or fruit cups in order to avoid lack-of-refrigeration concerns.
That’s it! I hope you feel inspired to make your own healthy Halloween Ghost Snacks, and spread them around this season. Have a fantastic, fun month!
