The Weather Science Activities are so much fun for preschool kiddos to learn about the weather. Packed with a variety of hands-on experiments, giving children the ability to develop a range of science skills, including classifying, sorting, making predictions, and more. Through these engaging activities, young learners not only explore and discover but also take a step towards nurturing future scientists.
Why is teaching science important for Preschool…
First, learning to classify, sort, observe, and make predictions is part of everyday life.
Next, Science is all around us from mixing paint colors, cooking, or playing outside. You can incorporate science into everyday fun.
And last, skills learned through experiments and exploration are cumulative so your child will continue to build on what they know and learn.

Weather Science Experiments For Kids
Rain Gauge
Rain gauges serve as excellent instruments for measuring precipitation and introducting preschoolers to the concept of “rain.” They are simple to construct and offer a fantastic chance to practice a variety of math skills to preschoolers, including number recognition, counting, and measurement.
Walking Water Rainbow
This is one of my favorite experiements and preschoolers love it too! You can set this up quickly and spend serveral days observing the water “walking” to create your rainbow.
Snowstorm in a Jar
Tornado Bottle
In this experiment for preschoolers, children can witness the fascinating process of snow formation within a small container. By shaking the jar filled with water, glitter, and a few drops of liquid soap, preschoolers can observe how clouds form and snowflakes precipitate. This hands-on activity only teaches them about weather, but also sparks their curiosity about the natural world.
Preschoolers always go crazy for this hands on activity! It’s the perfect way to learn about the science behind a tornado. And the best part is once you create your bottle, you can do it over and over again!
Shaving Cream Rain Clouds
In this experiment, preschoolers can create fluffy clouds using shaving cream on top of colored water. They can observe how rain (represented by food coloring) falls through the “clouds,” mimicking the process of precipitation in an engaging and visually fun way.
Water Cycle in A Bag
This experiment allows preschoolers to witness the water cycle process in action using simple materials. This hands-on activity effectively demonstrates the stages of the water cycle, engaging young learners in understanding this weather event.
DIY Thermometer
Exploring temperature is a science experiment that can happen anytime of the year. This experminet provides an easy visual for little learners to begin undertanding why a thermometer moves up and down with temperature changes.
Cloud in a Jar
This quick and easy science experiment explores water vapor to create a cloud inside a jar. Kids will go crazy as they create clouds with simple materials.
