If you haven’t had your kids listen to audio books on a road trip yet, you should, and I’m going to share a list with you of 10 great audio books for kids on a road trip. I’ve been thinking recently about all of the amazing classics I listened to or read as a child and wondering how to get my children into them along with the newer, easy reads. Then I remembered that most of them were either audio books we listened to while we worked or books my mom read to us while we traveled in the car.

The car is a fantastic place to get kids to listen to books. The reason, they have nowhere to go and not much else to do. They are a captive audience, and it is the perfect time to fill their cute heads with the amazing stories you want them to discover.

Like many of you, we’ve struggled sometimes with our children bickering after long hours in the car together. They can also get a little too happy and sing, loud obnoxious songs, at the top of their lungs, from the back seat. To solve both of those problems, we decided to try listening to audio books. I wish I could read them the books, but motion sickness hits me like a truck about 5 minutes into the story. Thankfully, audio books work just as well. Our first book was The Sisters Grimm. My husband turned it on as we pulled out of the driveway, and the car went silent except for the sounds of the woman reading us our story. It was amazing! Instead of pelting out a tirade of “Are we there yet’s” an hour into the drive, our kids didn’t want to get out of the car when we arrived. They wanted to finish the story.
