Minute to Win It Reading Game for Kindergarten

Minute to Win It Reading Game for CVC words. Great for Kindergarten and 1st Grade. #reading #games #kindergarten

My kids and I are starting a new series of Minute to Win It reading games. This is what happens when you have sick kids home from school, and it’s too cold to go outside. We had a great time coming up with ideas and taking video together. The baby may or may not have ruined several takes by being extra helpful. 🙂

For this game, all you will need is a few white, Styrofoam cups and a black marker. On the two outside cups write 5 or 6 consonants common to CVC words. On the center cup, write your vowels. The spin and find how many words you can make in a minute. Have someone record it for you with tally marks or writing the words. We used our boggle sand timer to keep track of the time.

This came could work in so many environments. It would be great in a kindergarten or 1st grade classroom as a group game or for centers. It would be perfect for homeschool, or just after school word practice. This is not your typical homework assignment.

We hope you enjoy this game, and make sure to follow our blog or subscribe to us on Youtube so you don’t miss any of the upcoming videos.

  1. You are right, this is not your typical homework. I can see kiddies having a lot of fun with this! It’s an easy activity to play in restaurants while waiting for your meal or while watching as an older sibling plays in their extracurricular activity. Fun and easy!
