SEL Relationship Skills Lessons and Activities

Lesson 1 – Making Friends: Students will learn how to make friends and be a good friend, developing essential social skills for building positive relationships. Activities include:

• Friendship bracelet making
• Friendship recipe cards group activity
• Role play Friendly Actions cards

Lesson 2 – Effective Communication: Students will learn the basics of good communication, focusing on listening skills and speaking clearly.

• Listen and Draw partner activity
• Clear Speaker Microphone practice
• Communication Charades
• Telephone game

Lesson 3 – Working Together: Students will learn the importance of teamwork and collaboration, developing skills for effective group work.

• Human Knot group activity
• Teamwork Superhero writing activity and craft
• Playing cards for a Team challenge lesson

Lesson 4 – Resolving Conflicts:  Students will learn basic conflict resolution strategies and practice applying them in various scenarios.

• Peace Path practice with cool down steps for conflict resolution
• I-Message conflict scenario cards
• Puppet play

Lesson 5 – Respecting Others: Students will learn about the concept of respect, why it’s important, and how to show respect to others in various situations.

• Respect glasses discussion and craft
• Golden Rule poster and class questions
• Respect Detective game

• Greeting & Warm Up: Welcome the new SEL lesson, review previous lessons, and share goal for new lesson.
• 4 different activities: Includes reading books, using different printables, journals, games, and more.
• Conclusion & Wrap Up: Summarize the different activities practiced and the emotions learned.
• Assessment: Observe students’ participation and engagement during activities.
• Extensions for Home Connection and Follow Up Activities:  Send a note home with a brief summary of the lesson and suggestions for parents to continue the topic covered.Finally, in this Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) unit on relationship skills, preschool and kindergarten students will learn to recognize and respect personal boundaries, practice kind communication, and develop basic friendship skills through interactive storytelling, role-playing, and guided play.
