Introducing  Short Vowel Spin and Read Activities for Phonological Awareness

As parents and teachers of young children, one of our primary goals is to cultivate a love for reading and literacy. One of the key components to the journey is developing phonological awareness, which is a critical skill identified by the Science of Reading.

In the Science of Reading Short Vowel Activity you will enjoy:

  1. Spin: Kids will have a blast with this  activity as they take a spin featuring consonants and vowels. As the spinner lands on each letter, children eagerly blend the sounds together to form simple CVC words. Then, they get to match the word to the correct picture.
  2. Read:  Next, as children practice decoding these words, they enhance their reading skills by recognizing the essential sound-letter correspondences. They will also gain confidence in their ability to tackle basic words independently.
  3. Write: Finally, in the “Write” CVC word activity, students are encouraged to put their phonics knowledge to work by spelling out CVC words themselves. With this hands on activity, they can use a combination of magnetic letters or letter tiles, and writing tools. In addition to graphing and writing the words, they will also be practicing sounding out the individual phonemes.All of the activities strengthening their spelling proficiency and phonological understanding. Plus it’s super hands on and fun! Winning!
