PUMPKIN THEME PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES
If you are looking for a wide variety of Pumpkin Theme activities for your preschool lesson planning, this pumpkin unit is perfect. We’ve included activities ranging from alphabet and counting to patterns, puzzles, and more. Check them out below.
Pumpkin Theme Math Activities for Preschool
Because we are teaching early math we need to cover different parts of number sense. In the following math activities, you’ll find counting, subitizing, more or less, one to one correspondence, and more to teach number sense during your preschool Pumpkin theme.
Pumpkin Seed Counting
How many seeds are in this pumpkin? Count and find out. I this activity, the kids get to count actual pumpkin seeds out onto their pumpkin to match the number on their card. Make sure you use edible ones, because a few of the kids enjoyed a healthy snack in the process.
I Spy Numbers – Find and Cover
The kids sure loved this activity. We used candy pumpkins as our markers to cover all of the focus number on the page. If it works better for you, orange circular counters would be great too.
Pumpkin Patch Counting
How many pumpkins are in this patch? Make them and see. This playdough center was a hit with my kids. They loved rolling the pumpkins, and then pushing their pipe cleaner stem through the top.
Which Group Has More?
Here we are going to count the pumpkins in each group and next clip the side that has more. This is great for counting practice, as well as beginning comparing numbers work.
Count and Check Pumpkin Craft
First, count the seeds in each section. Next, lift the flap to see if you are correct. This fun pumpkin craft is functional as well as cute, and the kids will love it!
Pumpkin Counting Puzzles
If you are looking for great counting and subitizing practice, these puzzles are a great fit. With only 3 pieces, they provided a challenge while not being too hard. If you wanted to add a self check, just write the numeral on the back of each piece. When they are done putting it together, they can check to make sure they got it right.
Pumpkin Literacy Activities
In preschool, we work on a range of literacy skills depending on where our kiddos are at. Here are pumpkin themed centers for alphabet letters matching, letter finds, and more to use in your Pumpkin preschool unit.
Pumpkin Patch Letter Matching
This activity is so fun. The kids get to place their pumpkin sticks in the correct pocket of the patch. Match up the letters, and slide it into the spot. This is great fine motor practice as well as letter recognition.
Matching Letters Pumpkin Puzzles
These letter puzzles were a great activity to help the children match up upper and lowercase letters. It was fun to see how many pumpkins they could put back together again.
Pumpkin Letter Find
These letter cards have letters hidden in them. Can you find them all? We covered ours with orange Snap Cubes. They almost looked like mini pumpkins, and were the perfect fit for this activity.
Pumpkin Shape Activities for Preschool
Shapes are an important skill kids need to help organize and identify visual information given. Here we get to practice building pumpkin shapes and use shapes to create funny faces.
Can You Make It? – Pumpkin Shapes
Pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes. Can you recognize these shapes, and make them with playdough? So fun!
Make a Face – Shapes Activity
Using just the shapes listed on the card, what kind of face can you make? This activity works on number recognition, counting, and of course, shapes. It’s also a lot of fun

Pumpkin Themed Puzzles
Here are a couple of the puzzles included in the set. One is a sequencing puzzle, where kids have to put the picture together in order. The other is a counting to 10 puzzle.
Peek Inside A Pumpkin Craft
This peek-a-boo craft is too fun. The children get to color the outside of their pumpkin. Then open the flaps to see the insides, made from yarn and pumpkin seeds. They’ll love taking this one home to show off to the family.
My Pumpkin Faces Counting Book
Our last center for this set is this pumpkin faces book. The children get to count and draw fun faces for each page. My favorite is the final page where they see a pumpkin that looks like themselves. They can either draw a self portrait or glue a picture of themselves on the pumpkin.
Pumpkin Pattern Cards
What color comes next? These pumpkin cards are a great way to work on patterns. We used pom poms to complete our patterns, but colored circle markers would work as well.

Believe it or not, there is more in this awesome preschool pumpkin unit set. Explore these fast, no-prep, print-and-go for a sub or one of those super crazy preschool days?
These Pumpkin Unit Day worksheets are the perfect last-minute fill-in for your lesson plans. They’re also a lot of fun for early finishers or for take-home packets.
Pumpkin Math Worksheets
The pumpkin worksheets cover a variety of early math skills. Teach kids shapes, counting, base 10, measurement, and number recognition with these fun math printables.
Pumpkin Literacy Worksheets
We are constantly working on early literacy in preschool. These Pumpkin literacy worksheets allow you to differentiate between a variety of learning levels. Younger preschoolers and pre-writers can start with the sorting whereas more advanced learners can work on letter sounds and letter tracing.
More Pumpkin Worksheets for Preschool
Some of the most important skills preschoolers learn are not math and literacy. With these Pumpkin worksheets they can also practice fine motor skills, tracing, scissor skills, and even do a work on puzzles.

I bought the pumpkin unit for prek but it is not allowing me to open the download, It keeps telling me I need to purchase something else. Help!!!
Hi Janice,
The TeachersPayTeachers website was having a technical issue the day I released the product which made the file not download correctly. I was able to get it resolved within a few hours, but if you downloaded in that few hour window, just go to My Purchases and re-download.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll just need to unzip the file by Right clicking it, and then Extract All. I hope that solve the problem you’re having. Email me through the Contact Me section of this page if you have any further questions. We’ll figure it out together.
Thanks!
Amy
You always have the best clipart!!! Mind sharing with whom you purchase it? Thanks Karen
