Gingerbread House Candy Patterns
Patterns are an early preschool skill, and here kids get to practice making patterns with candy used to decorate gingerbread houses. If you don’t want to use actual candy, substitute it with pom poms, buttons and plastic candy canes.
Gingerbread House Beginning Sounds
This gingerbread house activity is great for finding beginning sounds. Children say the word, and then find that sound to complete the word.
Gingerbread Button Color Sort
These gingerbread men need their buttons. Find the correct colors and use giant tweezers to place them on each cookie. It’s great fine motor practice as well as color sorting.
Gingerbread Man Numbers and Letters Sort
We love using our magnetic letters on cookie sheets, and for this activity we are sorting numbers and letters.
Count and Decorate Gingerbread House
I love the idea of decorating a gingerbread house without all the mess. That’s the idea in this activity, and the kids get some great counting practice as well.
Gingerbread Man Shape Sort
If you have colored shape buttons, they are perfect for this gingerbread man shape sort. However, foam shapes or other small shape manipulatives work as well.
Gingerbread House Sight Words
We love this idea of working on sight words in several ways. The kids can:
- Trace the words.
- Build the words with gumdrops.
- Read the words.
Gingerbread Man Letter Matching
In this fun gingerbread man activity, kids get to help the gingerbread men find their matching letter houses.
Gumdrop 10 Frames
Learning to count using 10 frames is an early preschool and kindergarten math skill. We loved using gumdrops for this, but you could also use pom poms or colored buttons.
Gingerbread Man Run Game
This roll and race game is fantastic counting practice, but the kids get some great grip strength and fine motor practice as well as they clip and unclip their gingerbread men along the route.
Gingerbread Name Beads
These gingerbread letters become beads with a simple section of drinking straw attached to the back. We used shoelaces to string them together to make our names.
Gingerbread Letter Cards
There are so many fun ways to make these letters. We used pom poms, but you can also use playdough, peppermints, buttons, gumdrops and so much more.
Gingerbread Man Counting
For this gingerbread many activity we counted gumdrops onto our gingerbread man’s tummy. I got the foam gingerbread men from our local Dollar Tree.
Another fun option would be to place actual gingerbread men cookies (or a cardboard/foam equivilent) onto a baking sheet. We would use a spatula for the extra find motor practice.

Hi! Do you think these activities are ok for a 2.5 year old ?thanks
They are geared towards the 3-5 year old range. Every child is on a different skill level, so it could work for some older 2’s. I would recommend checkout out the activities first.
